I am a fourth generation (Yonsei) Japanese-American “hapa” (half Japanese/half German). I am married to a third generation (Sansei) “hapa”(also half Japanese/half German). Together we have three “full-blooded” hapa’s. I am not a published author, but am an avid reader. I don’t speak Japanese or German except for a few phrases of Japanese spoken to me by my paternal grandmother, Hatsy. She mostly told us we were “yakamashii” which means “too loud” or to ask if we needed to go “shi shi”(which I believe is a Hawaiian phrase for pee pee, possibly shortened from the Japanese phrase “Oshikko shitai” ). WWII has always been a fascinating subject to me but even more so because of this project. I am currently “occupied” as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Room. When I’m not working on this project or “saving lives” I enjoy reading historical romance novels, gardening, quilting and playing my grandma Hatsy’s kamaka ukulele.
